Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The one-time leader was found guilty of planning a military coup in the ninth month and handed more than a 27-year term in prison, but he continued under home detention pending legal challenges.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after "new facts" were revealed.

This encompassed attempting to break his ankle monitor and a call for a supporters' gathering that could "allow for a possible escape.

Court Filing Details Escape Concerns

In a filing authorising the custody, the magistrate said intelligence from the centre monitoring Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the former leader's plan to remove the tracking monitor to ensure success in his escape.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the confusion caused by the demonstration called by his child.

His son, his son Flávio, who holds office as a senator, called for a gathering of his supporters near his father's house to take place on Saturday night.
