Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
